The Triumph of Nature

Horses of Chauvet Series is a work-in-progress which involves paintings and notes toward a theatrical piece.

Inspired by her love of horses and the images of horses painted on the Chauvet Caves in France over 30,000 years ago, Melinda is currently at work on a series of small oils-on-board and large oils-on-canvas. She has also been working on lyrics and a plot for a theatrical piece inspired by the paintings in the Horses of Chauvet series.

Melinda comments: “My paintings evoke wise, mystical horses who can lead the way out of our civilization’s current confusion. In my relationship with horses since I was a child, I have found they embody values and emotions that are transcendent. Horses are also exquisitely beautiful and I want to capture visually that sense of being at one with a horse when I am riding.”

A selection of paintings from the Horses of Chauvet series will be on view at Walter Wickiser Gallery during Melinda Camber Porter's solo exhibition of 20 oils on canvas.
The Arousal of Nature
Exhibition dates: 5th February-3rd March 2005.

Michael, a feature documentary film in production

Melinda is currently directing a feature documentary film, entitled Michael, on the British film director Michael Apted, who has directed over 40 films, including Coal Miner’s Daughter, Enigma, and the acclaimed Seven Up series.

Melinda comments: “Michael’s work is more relevant to the world now than it has ever been. He shows us real, ordinary people who have the heart and stamina to survive in the kind of world we’re all facing since 9/11.Watching films like Thunderheart and Gorillas in the Mist opens my eyes to the elemental courage that may be found in people.”
